Buckaroo Privacy Policy

The short version

Buckaroo does not collect anything unless you say yes. The first time you start the game it asks one question: share anonymous play data, or don't. Say no and nothing leaves your computer. Say yes and the game sends us small anonymous notes about how it runs and how far you get. No name, no account, no email. You can change your answer any time in Settings, under Privacy.

What we collect, if you say yes

This list comes straight from the game's code. If something is not on it, the game does not send it.

An install id. A random number the game makes up the first time it runs. It is not built from your computer, your Steam account, or anything about you. It only lets us tell one install's notes from another's.

Your hardware. Graphics card, processor and thread count, memory, operating system and version, system language, screen and window size, refresh rate, and the graphics preset you picked. This tells us what machines the game actually runs on.

How the game runs. Frame rate, stutter and slow frames, summed up once when you quit. Whether the last session ended cleanly or crashed.

What you did in the game. How long you played. Critters caught (the species, whether it was wonky, and where you put it). Breedings (how many kids, twins, how many mutations). Events entered and finished (the venue, the event, your rank, where you placed, what you won). Money milestones passed. Rank-ups. What you buy from a vendor (the item and its price). Training runs (how it ended and how long it took). Makeovers at Purdy's (how many parts changed). Whether you opened a how-to card or the glossary, and which one. Which screen you were on when you quit, and whether it was your first time playing. In the demo: which locked door you bumped into, and whether you pressed the Wishlist button. If you turn sharing off, one last note saying so.

Feedback you send on purpose. The feedback form has a 1 to 5 rating and a few text boxes (most fun, most annoying, anything else). If you press send, we get what you typed. That is the one place your own words reach us, and only when you choose to send them.

What we never collect

Your name, your Steam name or Steam id, your email, your IP address, your critters' names, your ranch name, your save files, any file on your computer, or anything you type outside the feedback form. The game does not read any of that into its notes. An automated test runs on every build and fails if any of it shows up in the data.

Where it goes

The notes go to PostHog, an analytics service, on servers in the United States. Like anything on the internet, PostHog can see the address the data arrived from. We have PostHog set to throw that address away the moment the data arrives, so it is never stored and never used. PostHog's own policy is at posthog.com/privacy.

What we use it for

One thing: making the game better. Which hardware struggles, where players get stuck or quit, which parts get played and which get skipped. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for advertising. We keep it as long as we are working on the game.

Your choices

Kids

Buckaroo is not made for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Nothing the game collects identifies anyone, child or grown-up.

Changes

If this policy changes, this page changes and so does the date at the top.
